Meeting point: Kirchberg funicular
Discover two centuries of fortifications: An impressive system of fortifications, almost vanished since the Treaty of London in 1867, defended the Kirchberg and protected the fortress town. The engineer Vauban, who directed the works of the siege in 1684, was commissioned to draw up a project for reinforcement of the fortress. The museum offers two-hour guided tours of these fortifications.
IMPORTANT: Participants should wear with suitable clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring a flashlight.

Luxemburger Bundeskontingent. Militär und Gesellschaft im 19. Jahrhundert
15:00 (DE)
In the midst of a Europe characterised by democratic upheavals and national wars, Luxembourg's national army – the Luxembourg federal contingent – is a chapter of history that is as forgotten as it is convoluted. The exhibition focuses on the impact of the military on politics, the economy and society. Exponates from our own historical collections as well as prestigious loans are brought together in the presentation and tell personal stories about the social and military challenges in 19th-century Luxembourg, such as the career of officer Louis-Alphonse Munchen.

La cité transparente. Yann Tonnar
16:00 (LU)
The Musée Dräi Eechelen will be presenting its first exhibition as part of the European Month of Photography (EMOP). The museum will showcase an original project by Luxembourgish artist Yann Tonnar which features a series of composite images inspired by nine lithographs titled Vues de Luxembourg and created in 1828-1829 – six drawings by Jean-Baptiste Fresez (1800-1867) and three by his student Jean-Nicolas Bernard (1803-1866). By mapping contemporary photographs onto historical lithographs with the same view, Yann Tonnar explores different stages of history. In a single image, the Luxembourg of 1829 and that of today coexist, taking us on a journey through two centuries of history by means of digital collage.

Creative workshop (from age 14 and over)
In-visible mending
11:00 – 17:00 (ongoing)
LU, FR, DE, EN
Until the invention of the sewing machine in the mid-nineteenth century, sewing and repairing uniforms was purely manual work. Army soldiers' uniforms were therefore also made by hand, which made the process time-consuming and costly. The clothes were then repaired instead of being thrown away, as is often the case today. Is your favourite garment damaged? Bring it back and take part in an interactive workshop where you'll discover new darning techniques. You'll learn more about the history of sewing, while mending your clothes in a decorative and attractive way so that you can use them for years to come. No sewing knowledge is necessary to take part in this workshop.
